1960 AMC Rambler American

1960 AMC (Nash) Rambler American Super, 4 door sedan for sale. 196 ci flathead straight six engine and manual 3-speed column shift.
It's a running, driving project car that could use a good home. I rescued it after being parked in a garage for 12 years with a seized engine.
ENGINE: I bought another 196 flathead, replaced the valves, resurfaced the head, new spark plugs, and installed it. I also flushed the fuel tank, replaced the fuel hoses and bypassed the original fuel pump with an electric pump (easily converted back to original). The engine starts right up and idles normally. Unfortunately it smokes out the tailpipe a lot, while idling and more when driving. Engine had been run maybe 25 minutes and driven 3 miles since being installed. Odometer says 19,336 which probably means 119,336.
RUNNING GEAR: Brake hoses, wheel cylinders and master cylinder replaced. Transmission needs adjusting to get reverse to engage, but forward gears work and she can drive around the neighborhood. Alignment could use some fine tuning. Tires are old, but tubes hold air well. The trunk of the car is *full* of spare parts: oil pump, fuel pump, oil pan, pulleys, spare wheel/tire, camshaft, etc, etc.
BODY: Extremely rust free, just a few spots of surface rust where paint flaked off, no cancer seen. Has a dent on rear drivers side door, and may have had a repaint in the past. Needs side mirror, tail lights cracked. Interior intact, but shows wear.
REGISTRATION: Clear California title, in my name. Rambler is on planned non-operation, so no penalty fees. Comes with original owner's manual and some vintage registration cards. Vintage black/yellow license plates included ONLY if car sold within California.
Overall, it's a spiffy little project car that can putter around the neighborhood but needs some more love before she hits the main stage. I got her running, but I'm trying to buy a house and every dollar counts. Questions welcome, only bid if you are prepared to buy. Beep beep!
