1962 Black Ford Thunderbird M-Code Landau Hardtop
Black w/Black interior 390/340hp M-Code, 3-spd. automatic transmission.
As with the ’63 T-Bird featured elsewhere on our site, this stunning ’62 is also an M-Code Landau Hardtop But this ’62 is even rarer, as its one of approximately 5 built! Like the M-Code, the Landau Pkg. was a new option in ’62. The vinyl roof was available only with the Landau. But the big news was the M-Code 390ci big-block engine sitting under the hood! The beast was conservatively rated at 340hp for insurance reasons. But in reality, it was closer to 400hp. It features 10.5:1 compression, 3 Holley 2bbl carbs sitting atop an aluminum intake manifold, 406 heads with higher-rate valve springs, a specially ground camshaft the was unique to this engine and a high-pressure oil pump.
This absolutely stunning example was sold new in CA. and has undergone a 5 phase restoration to factory specs that included mechanical, electrical, interior, drivetrain, and body. Over $200k was spent on this amazing restoration. During the fifth phase of restoration, the body was stripped, sanded and disassembled. This process enabled the location, identity, and correction of any flaws in the body. Fortunately, the body was found to be very straight with only minor rust found on the trunk floor. It was also discovered that the passenger side rear quarter panel had been replaced. The 3 original V.I.N’s were located on the frame and several period correct date stamps were located on various body panels. have been preserved. All three V.I.N.’s have been preserved. All chrome plating and stainless steel polishing was performed by Speed and Sport Chrome in Houston, TX. All rubber, seals, and weather stripping came from Steel Rubber Products. Thunderbird parts came from the Bird Nest, Thunderbird Headquarters, Larry’s and Concours Parts. Following this exhaustive process, the body was primed, painted, and reassembled. This all took the better part of a year to complete. In addition to the car’s extensive history, it also has its original Build Sheet! Options include Power Brakes, Power steering, swing-away steering column, and factory air conditioning. This has got to be one of the rarest T-Birds ever produced! Although, this ’62 no longer has is original M-Code engine, it (’63 M-Code) has been modified with headers and vastly improved internally. It runs and drives beautifully!
