Produced at the St. Louis assembly plant on July 7 1965 it was delivered new to Baker Chevrolet in Gary Indiana arriving with one of the most popular and successful small-block engines of the era the L79 327/350 HP V-8. The L79 was essentially the same engine as the L76 sharing the same 11.0:1 compression forged-aluminum pistons forged-steel crank and rods high-flow heads aluminum intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor. The difference was in the camshaft a new hydraulic-lifter grind that gave stunning performance while eliminating the need for regular tuning. Available only with a 4-speed manual transmission the L79 delivered 350 HP at 5800 RPM with a 6000 RPM redline and 360 lb-ft of torque at just 3600 RPM. Another exciting change for 1965 was the introduction of 4-wheel power disc brakes with a new dual-circuit master cylinder. Additionally equipped with 3.70:1 Positraction power steering windows and antenna a Teakwood steering wheel on a telescopic column tinted windshield and knock-off finned-aluminum wheels wearing Coker Classic gold-stripe radial tires this sensational one-off Sting Ray is documented with the owner’s manual sales brochure NCRS
