Description:

1980 Triumph TR7

Up for sale is my 1980 30th anniversary TR7. Manual 5 speed. There is a lot to like about this vehicle, especially the price. Seems like I have been working on this car forever, now that it's ready to get some use I am losing my storage. Time for it to go to a new owner. I have taken care of most of the things that people dread dealing with. There are some things to be aware of though. The good thing is I know all of the good and the bad so I am going to list it in detail here. 85,812 original miles.
New and newish things.
Things done new 10 years ago (since then the car has been in storage).
1. Full interiorand exterior paint job. Not show car but very nice paint and primer used. Its has 10 years to cure in storage and as you can tell the job was a good one.
2. New interior and trunk carpet. Not the greatest stuff but its in there.
3. New exhaust.
4. New top. This no longer looks new, but its in perfect shape. One snap doesn't snap, with some heat it might.
Things done new in the last year.
1. New Tires
2. Reworked micropolished dual SU HS6 manifold. This was the best thing I ever did. Tunes easily now. Paltech did the work. don't think ebay allows links but you can check him out at patech1 dot com.
I would say the 5 top points of the car, nice paint, starts and runs well, correct original tartan seats, new tires, highly prized dual SU HS6 carbs. I should also mention it has Allison electronic ignition which adds to the easy starting.
There are some items that would make the car more complete, but it is drivable as is. Starts and runs excellently. The air pump has been removed and holes plugged, in my opinion and improvement. The AC has been removed, I have all the parts if wanted. The engine fan has been replaced with a thermostatically controlled electric fan. Could use a new better choke cable.
The doors do not close perfectly and should be adjusted for smooth operation. The door panels are not original or correct. They have holes cut in the wrong place. They are in nice shape but you will probably want to find a correct set. The door locks are not right because they are through the incorrect door panels and bind up. I have included pics of every paint and body flaw I could find. The hazard light switch and fog light switches are not installed. The headlight switch is a higher quality replacement 3 way toggle and works perfectly. There is no radio installed. . The trunk rack hardware is not installed. The side view mirrors are not installed. I have one which was painted same as the car.
What I would do next if I was keeping the car would be address the items above. Then I would replace the shocks and do a bushing kit. This is cheap to do partswise and not that hard. I did it to my hard top TR7 and it changed the ride 100%. The wheels could use some dressing up.
There is a lot of value in this car to someone that wants to own a TR7 convertible. The seats are probably worth $1k and the SU carbs in perfect shape on a TR7 manifold are probably worth $1600 if you can find them. There's also an orange 76 hard top that is running but rough, available. Buyer is responsible for shipping. I can help and make sure it goes ok but funds will need to be cleared and buyer needs to set up shipping they can live with.
