1990 Pontiac Grand Prix ASC Turbo Trim

Time to pull out your Turbo Sunglass and cassette tapes!

For your consideration is this 1990 Pontiac Turbo Grand Prix by the American Sunroof Company. Pontiac's halo car for '89 and 90 with only 750 red and 750 black cars made for each year, so this car checks the block for exclusivity. All ACS Turbos had numbered body panels and they all match for this TGP.

Engine is a fuel inject 3.1l OHV with a Garret T-25 Turbo making a respectable 205hp, not bad for the day. Other amenities include the louvered hood, special body molding (all present with no cracks), and gold/silver BBS type spider web rims.

Interior features leather, power everything front driver and passenger seats, yes they work. Other interior features include dual radio controls; HUD for speed, turn signal, and bright lights; and door mounted seatbelt (because that's cool) and enough buttons to keep you busy on drive through western Kansas.

Car is great and fun to drive, but does have issues. Mainly the tach and speed-o will need to be looked at. Paint is original, with some bad respray on the louvres and pealing of the clear coat.

Rust - absolutely no underbody or through panel rust, only spot I know of is the small half dollar size area of surface rust inside driver door area.

Like I say, the only real problem is the dash and nothing that many other TGPs don't experience. Tach and Speedo do not really work and the fuel gauge registers full when actually full. So dash will need to be removed to fix the weak circuits. I've been told cost to fix is ~$100-200, but have not had time to look into it.
I do have the workshop manual and the Turbo Service Manual Update. Removing the dash and instrument cluster does look pretty easy.
The HUD does work - just not that great on a very bright day.
Other issues are typical ASC Turbo issues are present - peeling clear coat, worn upholstery/carpet (no rips in leather seats though).
Radiator - Yes, this has been fixed to the tune of $553 and some change. Orr Radiator in KCKS did the work. This should not cause any issues. And no, there was no cheaper/less expensive route to go - it's a special ASC radiator, so the core was made from scratch- literally. Original core is in the trunk, you can have it if you want it. Other pain in the a$$ hoses were replaced at the same time the radiator was out.
Brakes are okay - first gen ABS, So DO NOT go from a 2010+ car to the TGP and tailgate someone. Big, big difference.
OK, title is a regular title, though the car is registered as a salvage title. I thought the KS title would say Salvage on it - It does not. Sticker is in the door. Though there is no damage, Ins paid out and this car will forever have a Salvage title.
Why salvage title - story is a previous owner left the keys in it and it disappeared for a while. Insurance pays out and what do you know - it shows back up only missing the keys - how convenient. Insurance fraud yes, but there is no theft damage to the car, no accidents, nothing rebuilt, and all body panels have the matching VIN sticker. And why I did not worry about this.
