Description:

1968 Plymouth Fury Sport

Up for Sale is my 1968 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible, 383 HP "H" code w/ 4 speed manual transmission and currently shows 11,000+ (111,000+) miles. VIN# PH27H8D182242. If you are into rare this is a 1 of 73, (according to the Galen Govier white book). How many of those 73 had the option of a tilt/telescoping steering wheel? Well, Galen comes up short there. The car runs strong but the transmission shifts a little stiff at times. It has a Hurst shifter that probably replaced the original Inland unit at some time prior to 1972.

I realize the term "survivor" can be overused and subjective, but what you'll find here is something very close. If you're into original and un-molested, it could also be for you. It is a numbers matching car and I am the third registered owner of this car, the second owner, (see below), purchased it in 1972.

"I bought the car in about 1972 from a local Pontiac dealer in Two Rivers, WI. The original owner traded it in on a new Pontiac Grand Prix. The car was bought from our local Chrysler/Plymouth dealer, Yanda Motors, in Manitowoc, WI. I knew the dealer owner and he told me the original owner was a salesman from Newton, WI. He drove it about 4 years and traded it on a Grand Prix. The car had approximately 70,000 miles when I bought it in 1972”.

"At the time I was working in the Chicago area and came home to WI.on the weekends. I kept the car in a garage on my dad's farm in WI. all the years I owned it. I just drove it on weekends in summer. I think I put about 10,000 miles on it the first year and when I sold it, it was around 102,000. I wrote the mileage number on the left front fender every time I changed oil. If the numbers are still there, you should be able to see how many miles I drove it since 1972”.

"The top is the original top and it never was in the rain all the years I owned it. In the early years that I had the car, I would leave the top down in summer for whole weekend. But in the later years it seemed the top was hard to lock to the windshield if you left it down for a long time. So the last few years I always put the top back up after using it on a weekend drive. I think the top may have shrunk a bit over the 40 years I owned it. Somewhere during the 1stten years that I owned the car, I had some rust spots fixed on the bottom panels. I think they re-painted everything below the red strip. But after 30 years or so, the painted area seems to have faded faster than the parts not painted. The chrome along the rear wheel wheels was also replaced at that time but front ones are original. By the way, the red strip came standard from the factory on the Sport Fury. The wheels are also factory”.

The above mentioned body work is showing its age and could be addressed. The upper surface areas that retain the original paint still look good. The front of the hood has some bugs & chips, (some call this "patina”), and the bumpers are in very good condition. It looks like it was undercoated and/or rustproofed early on. The trunk and floors are solid but some rust in the left sub-frame mounting area, (common on these I'm told, note kept in a garage on the "farm") was repaired to meet NYS Inspection. The 383 has the original dual snorkel air cleaner, HP exhaust manifolds, distributor, PN# 2875356 (points and all), and Carter AVS4426S carburetor. All lights and gages, (except clock) work. Top goes up and down well. Dash pad is excellent with no cracks. Carpet is original as well but has wear spots in the front area.

What you won't find: 22" Wheels, CD player, sub-woofer, door/interior panels cut for speakers, Holley, Edlebrock, Hooker, Moroso or MSD anything, added on A/C or gages bolted up under the dash, and of course, not one of those silly looking little steering wheels, (just as god and Chrysler Engineers intended). I've tried to abide by two things, 1) If you want to drive and old car, DRIVE an OLD car, & 2) They are only original once.

This was an ordered car, (per fender tag decode), now I wish the original owner had checked a few more boxes on the form, like power brakes, (that would have been discs w/15 inch wheels), HD suspension and a sure grip axle but you can't have everything.

Now, I've never sold a car on Ebay before, (though I've tried) so I will be cautious, those with low or negative feedbacks will be disqualified without prior approval. There is no Title persay, in New York, cars prior to 1973, came with a transferrable registration.

In the three years of owning and driving this, (among other things, full list will be provided), I've done the following:

·Brakes:

oEverything from the pedal down, (except the drums that were resurfaced and some lines), including all parking brake cables.

·Heater Core

·Original radiator re-cored.

oNote, does not have a Trans cooler fittings.

·Rear leaf springs re-arched with additional leaf.

·Mufflers and tail pipes.

oThis is a true factory dual exhaust, not a 318 car or 283 Chevy somebody stuck duals on.

·Seals in rear axle.

·Recovered driver's seat.

oI found a shop and picked the closest possible material available and retained as much of the original material as possible. Could have gone the Year One route but like I said they are only original once.

oPassenger seat, back seat and carpet are original.

·OEM AM/FM radio.

oHard to find, if you don't know, the radios for these cars were a two year only model and FM in 67-68 was not a widely picked option.

oOriginal AM radio and a vintage Motorola FM converter will be included.

·Rear seat speaker.

oI know I know, but when I purchased the AM/FM it came with the OEM fader switch and complete wiring harness to the rear seat so I put it in.

·New Tires, including spare.

oAgain, I know, I know. I had two choices in this size that I could find at the time, (I didn't want to lose the OEM Magnum 500's), Hankook Optimos @ $65, or Coker Wide Walls @ $200+ and I didn't think the Wide whites would look that good anyway.

·Valve Seals & Valve cover gaskets.

oFirst time the valve covers had been off the engine, (gaskets still had engine paint on the tabs).
