Rarity

This is a very early 1973 model P1800ES. #5214 of only 8077 produced for the model years 1972 and 1973. Only sold in the US and an instant hit at dealer showrooms, his gorgeous ES likely caused quite a spike in traffic at the Volvo dealer.

Purchased from the third owner, prominent artist, ho garage kept this P1800ES from 1981 until our purchase in 2014.

Low Mileage

Six digit odometer shows 68304 miles. The odometer is functioning properly.

High optioned

Borg Warner Automatic Transmission operates properly.

Leather upholstery is in excellent condition

In 2014 several of these cars sold at auction for sums in excess of $80,000. Wayne Carini’s (Chasing Classic Cars TV show and SCM Magazine) December 2014 article in Forbes predicted $100,000 sales in 2015.

Tomo reviewed this Volvo P1800 in detail. Here are his impressions of the car and the market:

Today we are checking out a very cool 1973 Volvo P1800 ES. This rare car has an enthusiastic worldwide following, ven attracting the nickname “snow white’s coffin” in Germany. The expansive glass space and beauty of the car being fit for a queen in slumber.

Number 5214 of the 8077 produced in only a two year run, his was volvo’s flagship vehicle. It was quite expensive, ven when new, nd was more expensive than the Corvette of the same year. Technologically advanced, eaturing bosch d-jetronic fuel injection, wheel disc brakes and unique styling, he car soon realized a cult following that has stayed with it through today. Styling influences from this very car are easily seen on the back of the new volvo c30 series cars, ith it’s signature large rear backlight area.

Most collector cars are impractical to utilize as daily drivers, owever, he volvo P1800 is just the opposite. Many of these cars have several hundred thousand miles on them, s their owners found them reliable, conomical, porty, nique, ractical and most of all fun to drive.

This example shows very, ery low mileage on the odometer, t just 68304 miles. This matches the oral history conveyed by the owner of some 33 years. This was a coveted piece of art kept dry and safe by a long time Volvo club of America member. New floor pans were added in 2006.

A complete restoration was begun in 2014.

This car features the rare factory gold paint. Minimal rust was removed and a two stage factory color matched gold metallic paint was applied. Several coats of clear were then applied. After a month of curing, he car was color sanded and polished to a high lustre. She rides on factory styled steel wheels with correct rings and new tires. The roof mounted luggage rack is not present but we have one available separately if so desired. All rubber parts were in excellent shape or they were replaced. Glass is original and excellent.

The interior is in superb shape. Excellent and supple original leather interior. The dash pad is excellent and original to this car. New carpet installed. Factory console and floor shifter. Original gauges in place. Excellent headliner.

Stainless trim is excellent. It was removed, traightened to perfection and polished before installation. Chrome is fresh and new. New OEM exhaust system from the header to the tailpipes. Fresh tune and oil change.

This car runs, rives and stops exactly like it is supposed to do. Everything works the way it was intended by the manufacturer.

A complete build book is included. There are detailed photos of the restoration work, ocumentation and receipts as well as period adverts and Volvo club enthusiast magazines.

If you follow the collector car market, ou know these are about the hottest cars in the entire marketplace. Picked as a prime car for appreciation recently by Wayne Carini, he last four nice cars at auction each sold for in excess of $80k! Buy, old, njoy and make a good investment.
