1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS Custom Build SEMA 2016 Display Multiple Award Winner

1967 Camaro SS Custom Build

A complete build that began with a very solid original 67 Camaro, this car features a new LS3 525HP engine and Tremec 6 speed Drivetrain. Transfer of that power to the street is handled by a fully custom and industry leading Detroit Speed front and rear suspension. Wilwood Brakes bring it all to a stop. Custom touches continue throughout the entire car with a tasteful and clean approach. Work was performed by highly regarded and award winning Epic Auto Restorations, and the accolades continue with the Camaro's multiple awards received in the very short time since the car's completion in Fall 2016.

Exterior Condition

The Camaro's finish is expertly applied in Sikkens Autowave Metallic Silver. Panel gaps and alignment are impeccable with discreet, but very effective custom touches, some are easily noticed like the relocation of turn signals to the custom front valance. Others become apparent each time the car is viewed. The restoration utilized the original 67 Camaro SS sheet metal from the floor pan to the rear body panels and including the doors. Front end sheet metal was replaced with genuine GM OEM fenders and hood. Billet Specialties Mag wheels 18x8 front and 18x10 rear provide a period feel with modern quality and stance. The Cowl Hood and factory style nose stripe continue the understated style that draws one to the Camaro's detailed touches. There are virtually no faults in the car's exterior presentation, as its awards reflect.

Engine Bay Condition

Under the hood, the 525HP LS3 occupies a clean and simplified space that features the LS3 and custom touches, including a smoothed firewall that integrates Fesler hood hinges at the rear. The Billet grille and Fesler HID headlights frame the front of the engine bay and between them is very clean design and well-executed craftsmanship. Completing the engine bay is VintageAir IV with Front Runner Accessory Drive, and an American Auto Wire wiring harness. Engine cooling is by DeWitt aluminum radiator with dual Spal electric fans. The LS3 is mated to a Tremec T56 Six Speed manual Transmission and is completed by Hooker ceramic coated headers flowing into a custom Magnaflow 3" tuned exhaust that ends in custom tips underneath the car.

Interior Condition

The detailed theme continues inside the SS with a tastefully modified original style interior. TMI vinyl sport seat foam and covers were incorporated on the front bucket seats for a more comfortable, sporty and modern feel with improved support, while retaining the original pattern and style. Custom red with black trim, matching carpet, Camaro Sport steering wheel and shifter all combine to create a clean look with well thought out details. The Camaro's original dashboard was retained, with Dakota Digital VHX gauges including OBD II interface; and since the car came originally equipped with air conditioning, the factory dash outlets are functional for the VintageAir system. Interior overall is excellent-plus. Odometer reading since completion is 20 miles.

Chassis and Undercarriage Condition

Handling and road characteristics are provided by leading performance and design suspension tuners at Detroit Speed Inc. The rear suspension is Detroit Speed's QuadraLink setup, featuring a 4 link rear design using JRI dual adjustable coil over shocks. The bodywork integrates a mini tub to the rear inner fenders to accommodate the larger wheels and tires. Workmanship is better than factory and undetectable. Front suspension is also from Detroit Speed Inc, utilizing their most advanced Speed Kit #3 setup featuring tubular A-arms, quick ratio steering box, larger sway bar and BMR subframe connectors, with JRI coil over shocks. Also included in the no shortcut suspension design are the Detroit Speed Inc solid body mounts, brake booster and master cylinder. Finishing the chassis off is the GM 12 bolt Moser 4:10 differential. In accordance with all details in this build, each component underneath is as well designed, sourced and executed as those elsewhere on the car. Suitable for show, track, autocross or street, this car incorporates the best platform from the best designers with excellent workmanship.

Collectability

A very desirable collector and show car, this Camaro is an actual original "SS" model with clear title history, undisturbed original VIN tag and hidden VIN stamping present. The car retains its factory quarter panels, floors, trunk lid, and doors. The hood, front fenders, and inner fenders are genuine new NOS GM. Presentation and build execution are accomplished with the highest attention to detail, whether visible or hidden. The build was performed to the highest standard by a restorer that is noted for award-winning workmanship, including Yenko Camaro 739 and also the highest Concours judged restored vintage Porsche. Pedigree is well ensured in this car and its workmanship carries through tastefully, thoroughly and yet not overdone. Fit and finish is excellent and is supported by the car's presence as a display car at the 2016 SEMA show, where it received the GoodGuys Gold award nomination, and again with its award as the Best Modified Chevy, along with the Gold Award at the 2016 Muscle Car and Corvette National Show, where it scored 995 of a possible 1000 points in judging.
