1976 Triumph TR-6

1976 TRIUMPH TR6 ROADSTER - After 22 years I am ready to let go of the best of my collector cars. The car has 25,609 miles on it. All numbers matching original. Here is an overview of why I am ready to sell: I am retired and beginning to prefer less maintenance and more driving. I purchased a low mileage 1996 Corvette in 2012, and a new Mazda Miata MX5GT in 2010. These along with my TR6 occupy my garage. My daily drivers, of which there are 2, stay out in the weather. Today's cars don't handle hail storms well with their ultra light aluminum hoods and overall thin sheet metal. I have had significant hail damage on both cars the last 2 summers. I need to get at least one of them in the garage! So I am selling my beloved TR6. I have a lift in the garage. The TR6 lives on the top of the lift with the Miata underneath. Since these cars are not used daily there is no moisture in the garage, and the door opens mostly only on weekends. My garage is actually a "clubhouse" with a rubber floor and TV, etc. I'm explaining all this to provide a background for the excellent environment the TR6 has lived in for the past 22 years. I am the second owner. I purchased this rust free low mileage car in the Fall of 1994. The original owner had passed and his wife was selling the car. She said he had bought the car for her, but she rarely drove it due to the heavy TR6 Borg&Beck clutch. The selling dealer was Westlake Imports in Elmhurst Illinois. It only had a little over 16,000 miles on it at the time I found it. It just needed a good cleaning and replacement of a lot of normal wear items. I did not drive the car for first 2 years. I spent that time tearing out all the components in the engine bay and repainting the block, polishing and powder coating stuff like the valve cover, air cleaner, wheels, etc. Replacing shocks, brakes (every wear item) and detailing the rest of the car. Many of these items have recently been redone. The engine compartment and underside are super clean, and detailed. I used POR15 on the underside in 1994 and it looks as good now as it did when I applied it. Last year I had the original starter and alternator rebuilt just to provide reliability on club tours. Other recent stuff: new Coker Redline tires, fuel pump (the original is rebuilt and ready as spare), sun visors, and a lot of little bits. I still have the "old" tires from my 1994 restoration in storage but they are hard riding Michelin Redlines. The new Cokers are a much better ride but not quite as good looking. I have saved almost all the receipts from parts replaced over 22 years. The average miles driven in a year since 1996 is less than 500 a summer, all are car club tours and local car shows (see picture of miles log). It has many awards. I have had many collector cars over the years from a 1930 Model A to a 1947 Plymouth 4 door sedan. I seek out low mileage rust free cars. I have always had a British car. I also had a 1979 Spitfire for over 30 years that I sold a few years ago.
On to the details about the car: The original paint is above average. It does require a good wax to look its best. There are areas that have been resprayed and touched up. Don't expect this original paint to look like it just left the factory. The original owner repainted the right front fender for reasons unknown (I think there was a garage wall vs. fender encounter or similar incident). There are a few small dings here and there but hardly noticed. I can send close up pictures. I have always worked to keep the paint and parts as original as possible, not only the Mimosa yellow body, but all the small bits as well. Overall this paint is very good and you would not want to repaint the car. Even at close inspection most would say it is amazing. The top is a Robbins top I had put on in the work completed in 1996. It fits properly and looks like it was put on yesterday. The interior is entirely original except for those sun visors I just replaced this summer (I have the originals). Dash is near perfect. Gauges are all working and clean. Even the carpeting is original and shows no wear. Working Radio is an original dealer installed Blaupunkt. I have both the original tonneau top and the saddle boot cover. You can tell this is a low mileage car just by looking around at these details. The trunk still has the original brand new spare with tool kit. The paper towels placed with the tool kit were there from the factory! There are very few original cars as clean as this, hence the price. The car drives as good as it looks. Engine is original and has nice even compression (110 avg) across all 6 cylinders. I did a complete rebuild of the carbs 2 years ago. I adjusted the valves this spring. Valve adjustments have been done about every 3-4 years just for fun. The distributor shaft is tight and springs properly lubed. It runs strong and quiet. I did a front brake job just this summer with new rotors. The rears I did a couple seasons ago. The calipers were rebuilt with Roadster Factory stainless pistons a couple years ago (almost all parts have been from RF). The newer master cylinder carries Dot 5 fluid. There is a nice firm pedal. I refurbished the insides of the tail lamps last year. I could go on for ages about maintenance items and detailing I have done and redone, but rest assured everything from anti-freeze to trans oil has very low miles on it. The trans has never been out of the car. The clutch is still good, no grinding gears or synchros. Our car club (Illinois Sports Owners Association - ISOA) has many experts and the car is well known as one of the best. I have had a great resource for repair help with this club. I am the club newsletter designer. You can drive this car with confidence anywhere (well as much as you can depend on any British car anyway). Just carry tools at all times just in case. I have done all the work, there is nothing to do but tinker. It's an honest and hard to find original. Please feel free to ask questions. I can send more pictures to serious inquires. Payment must be in cash or certified bank check. I prefer the car be picked up by the buyer himself. If transported I insist using Reliable in an enclosed trailer (buyers expense). Many extra parts, original manuals, service manuals, etc included. Please feel free to ask questions.
